If you are looking for a compact waterproof camera, the Nikon COOLPIX AW100 Waterproof Digital Camera may be is the best choice.
The Coolpix AW100 is Nikon’s first watertight, weatherproof camera. Made to match the likes of the Panasonic FT3 and Olympus TG-810, this snapper is watertight to 10 metres and comes loaded with a 28 mm wide-angle lens. It is also equipped with a 16-Megapixel BSI CMOS detector, which is quite uncommon in watertight compacts at this sort of cost.
The AW100 has a built in compass, each of which function fairly nicely and GPS. Like the TG 810, you may utilize these to label pictures with the direction where the camera was facing as well as the place at which they were shot. The Nikon AW100 shoots a little over a minute to locate the GPS place in broad, open spaces.
The Nikon Coolpix AW100 is a streamlined water- and weatherproof snapper aimed in general at divers, hikers and outdoor types. Nevertheless, susceptibility and the lens are somewhat disappointing, which gets us favor competitors such as the Panasonic FT3.
The Nikon Coolpix AW100 is a great little camera for anyone who likes to snorkel. It’s easy to use and took good underwater pictures. Further, It is more compact, easier to use and waterproof, cold proof, drop resistant, etc..
it good enough for most uses, at a price that you wouldn’t expect to be getting gallery quality, anyway. This is a great “life-proof” camera. Have used it in the pool, lake and ocean. dropped it banged it up. does not dent or scratch easily. Takes outstanding pictures. Very easy interface and simplistic menus.
Waterproof, shockproof, and freeze proof. What more could a person need in a camera? I’m not a professional photographer but I wanted a camera that could withstand what I was going to put it through! I live in a place that has various climate changes throughout the year and needed one that wouldn’t freeze to death if I left it in my car.
I also like to take photos when I am at the beach with my friends but had a camera get ruined when I forgot it was in my pocket and I went into the water. This was my first waterproof camera and I wasn’t sure what to expect as far as picture quality but I’ve taken a few photos underwater and they turned out amazingly sharp. I even recommended the Nikon Coolpix AW100 to a few friends because it has been able to stand up to my torture.
If you are looking for a camera that has “beauty fix” and other add ins to make your pictures pretty, this is not your camera. If you are looking for a no shit camera that can take some punishment and provide beautiful pictures, this is it. I’ve recommended this camera to so many friends and I’ll continue to do so. I love it!
The Nikon Coolpix AW100 is very lightweight making it easy for me to carry in my pocket and the LCD screen is pretty big compared to other digital cameras I’ve had. It makes it easier to get a great shot when you have a bigger screen to see it through.
This camera also has a GPS and a clock on it which I use quite often and the GPS has come in very handy. When I’m travelling, the clock stays on time even adjusting itself to the time change. I really like the GPS because it shows where every photo was taken in case I forget. Everything about this camera is simple and easy to use. I have not had to spend a lot of time fiddling around with the buttons and settings to get a good photo as it always does a good job.
I really have no complaints about the camera. I don’t expect to get professional quality photos with it but it does the job for what I need it for. I just enjoy taking photos of my family and friends and different places that I travel to. I’m not looking to be a professional photographer with this camera but I’m happy with it.
The high definition video recorder on this camera works great, too. Last week, some friends of mine went to a pool party and we got some hilarious shots underwater. Everyone was surprised at how crisp and clear they turned out.
Even in a darker setting, the lighting on the camera is perfect so that everything is viewable in the video. I like how I can take this camera with me everywhere and don’t have to worry about it getting wet or dirty. I’ve even dropped it a few times and it still works.
I also go to a lot of sporting events and have gotten some really great action shots. When I tried taking photos with other cameras, the action shots always turned out too blurry and were deleted. With this camera, I can count on it to catch every action, throw and kick.
All in all the Nikon COOLPIX AW100 camera was a good pick up. I would highly recommend the AW100 camera to anyone who is looking for an outdoor/waterproof camera, or someone who needs a slightly more durable camera. hopefully, this will help some individuals decide whether or not this is the right camera for them.

12.Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX10
At first glance, the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX10 actually looks like a cell phone. It is small and thin and I wasn’t quite sure about purchasing it because of its small stature but after reading some of the reviews I decided to try it out for myself. I got the camera and I really liked the feel of it.
It is small and easy to fit into my coat pocket or pants pocket when I am out and about somewhere. I find it annoying to have to carry around a big bulky camera just so I can take a few photos especially if I am on a long hike or travelling across country. This camera fits perfectly wherever I go and isn’t much bigger than my wallet.
All of these are things that I have been looking for in a camera. I wanted a camera that could withstand everything that I put it through. I’m accident prone and a bit forgetful and don’t want to have to purchase a new camera every time I forget to bring the camera in out of the cold or drop it on the ground.
The 3D feature on this phone is really cool to play around with. I didn’t realize that a camera could do such a great job creating a 3D photo. The iSweep panorama is really fun, too. We have played around taking various photos with these two settings and have come up with some amazing shots.
The back illumination image sensor has come in very handy with this camera. I’ve always had a problem getting a good photo in a darker setting but the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX10 has the ability to sense when there is not enough light for the photo and it adds the correct amount of light to give you a great pic. You can’t even tell that the photo was taken in low light. This comes in very handy at night time.
I’ve played around with the background defocus feature on this camera. It works really well especially if there are people or other objects in the background that I really don’t want to be in the photo. It also gives some of the photographs a little extra touch and they look more professional with the background blurred out. You just have to make sure not to use it all the time especially when you want the background in the photo.
I have no problems sharing the photos from my Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX10 as I can upload them right to my computer and then share them easily with family and friends. All in all, this camera is simple to use and always captures a good photo in any type of lighting or setting. I have no problems with this camera so far and am happy with the purchase.

If you are planning a vacation where you will be taking underwater photos in shallow water, you should buy one. Given the price, this is really a very nice camera .
Still being an underwater photography novice, I had some bad experiences with underwater cameras in the past. They seemed to not last very long or the photos underwater turned out horrible. I was a little unsure about purchasing the Kodak Easyshare Sport C123 camera but after reading some reviews I decided to give it a shot. I really wanted a camera that I could do everything with and that would last more than a few months.
The 12 megapixels really make the photos come out sharp and clear and the high def photos look very professional. My family and I are avid swimmers and we love taking photos underneath of the water, and you can get some really great shots with this camera! We also do a lot of hiking and I needed a camera that could stand up to rain as well and a few bumps and scrapes here and there.
The video on this camera works great, too. We have taken a few videos in the water and out of the water. Even in the water you can see and hear everything. We have had a lot of fun with this camera and we take it with us everywhere we go. I’m thinking about purchasing another one for my teenage daughter because she is always breaking things and I think that this one would stand up to her!
Another feature I really like about this camera is the easy share feature. It is definitely easy to share photos and videos from the camera. All you have to do is push a button for where you want it sent to and it does the rest! Makes it very easy to share everything with family and friends without having to download them all to my computer and then upload them somewhere else to share.
So far I have had no problems with this camera. It has done everything I’ve wanted it to and still works even after dropping it on a cement floor! I don’t have to worry about getting any dust or dirt on it either as it is dust proof. I like the scene detection on this camera because I don’t have to stop to change the settings on it if I want to take a photo in the dark or somewhere with low light. It can sense what type of setting you are in and makes sure that the photo comes out clear even when the conditions are not perfect.
I wish we could take this camera deeper than 10 feet below water because I would really like to take it deep sea diving and would want to go deeper than 10 feet. That is one of my only complaints about the Kodak Easyshare Sport C123.
That and the fact that the batteries don’t last very long but it could be because we use it so often but we just keep extra batteries on hand in case we need them. I wasn’t expecting to get professional quality photos with this camera but it works for everything we need it for!
If you want a camera for the rest of your life that may take pictures in and out of water, you might want to consider investing is something a little higher in quality, but for getting a majority of your underwater shots, invest in EasyShare C123 camera over disposables. Trust me, it’s worth it!
14.Sony DSC-TF1/L – Under 100$
If you want find a waterproof camera for when you swimming/diving/snorkeling in the shallows, the sony DSC-TF1/L is best. it works great underwater and takes great pictures! it can take very good photos in good light situations for a compact camera.
The panoramic mode works great also.I’d recommend this for anyone who likes taking photos but doesn’t want to worry about keeping the camera dry.
The Sony DSC-TF1/L camera is compact but solid, and is a good value.it under water without any problems and allows you to not worry so much when carrying your camera around on vacation and around water. as a whole the camera is pretty amazing for the price and I do recommend it. If the battery life were longer on it I would have given this 5 stars for sure.
15.Canon Sure Shot A-1 Water Resistant 35mm Camera
I purchased this camera quite a few years ago when I first began getting interested in the underwater photography world. I wanted a good reliable camera that I could take with me on various diving excursions and on trips that I took with my family. I wanted a camera that could do everything I needed so that I didn’t have to be numerous different cameras and I definitely found what I wanted in this camera.
This camera has definitely held up over the years. It has taken some beautiful underwater photos. It has auto correct for underwater photos so that you are sure to catch the best shot in the water. It picks up all of the colors and the details in the water without being cloudy and blurry like some photos I’ve seen from underwater.
I’ve used the wide angle view in a variety of settings including underwater and on dry land. I’ve captured some beautiful photographs of sunsets, mountains, and big city skylines with no problem. It takes the old style 35 mm film which some of us old people will remember using before the digital age. I don’t mind it though because I enjoy using film that I can develop myself.
The Canon Sure Shot A-1 has an extra large viewfinder which I have found to be extremely helpful when wearing my diving gear under the water. The built in flash always works wonderfully and it can adjust to just about any type of lighting situation whether you are deep in the dark sea or in the bright desert sun.
My family and I have thoroughly enjoyed this camera. We have taken it on many trips with us and have captured beautiful photos with it. I do wish that it had a wrist strap with it instead of just a neck strap as the neck strap isn’t always dependable especially when in the water. I thought I had lost this camera at one point when it floated off of my neck while on a dive but luckily I was able to grab it before it disappeared. It would be much easier to be able to hold onto it with a wrist strap.
For the price of this camera it has definitely stood up to the hands of time. It has been through a lot and seen a lot of places. It has been dropped on the hard ground and in the water and still works perfectly. Cleaning it carefully every time you use it plays a big part in how long it lasts.
If you don’t take care of it then you can’t expect it to last for years. The elements of salt water can really wreak havoc on an underwater camera and you have to ensure that you are getting all of the salt cleaned out from it and checking the seal.
If any tiny drop of water gets into a camera, it’s a goner. Maybe eventually I will get a digital camera but for now, I am still enjoying using my Canon Sure Shot A-1.

Underwater Camera Maintenance Tips
Getting a good photograph underwater can be a bit tricky at times especially for someone new to underwater photography. A lot of things need to be taken into consideration when taking photos underwater such as lighting in the water, waves, and depth, just to name a few.
A waterproof camera is the most important tool in underwater photography and special precautions and care must be taken to ensure that you get the best performance out of your underwater camera. Sometimes skipping one small step can result in water seeping inside of your camera, and once water gets inside, that camera is most likely a goner.
All underwater cameras should come with a manual that includes special maintenance tips that are needed to be done in order for your underwater camera to have a long healthy life. Quality underwater cameras are typically a bit pricey and if you are investing your money into a good camera specifically to take photos underwater, you have to be sure that you follow all of these maintenance tips every time that you use your camera.
Even though underwater cameras are considered waterproof, most waterproof cameras can not withstand a heavy rush of water hitting it at once. This can include if you have the camera in your hand and then dive into the water or simply just throwing your camera into the water. If you are diving into the water, your best bet is to have someone hold it for you and then hand it to you once you are in the water or use a camera float to place it in the water until you are in.
The O rings are extremely important to an underwater camera. These rings are what keep the water out and the inside of the camera bone dry. If anything happens to these O rings, whether it be breakage, cracking or even a piece of sand on the ring, water will slowly seep into the camera. It is very important to check the O rings before every underwater use.
If you are using the camera in salt water, you must be sure to soak the camera in fresh water as soon as possible. The salt from the water can eat away at the seal on the camera and cause a leak. Once you have soaked the camera in fresh water, let it dry completely before opening the camera to change batteries or remove the memory card.
Use common sense when using your underwater camera and don’t do anything that can cause water to get inside of the camera such as opening it underwater or too soon after being in the water before it is completely dry.
Follow all of the care tips that come with the camera every time you use it. Some cameras may even come with their own cleaning brush. If you follow all of the maintenance and care steps, your underwater camera should last for years to come and give you the great underwater shots that you enjoy taking.
Capturing Underwater World with Photography
People have always been fascinated with the oceans and the bays of the world as an unknown world. People who go diving wish to bring the underwater world visible to those who don’t dive. Bringing the underwater world home using digital underwater photography is growing every year.
There are many types of underwater cameras. There are the highly expensive professional cameras and then there are the one time slightly effective versions. But knowing which camera is needed when and where is extremely important.
The 35 mm cameras are just point and shoot cameras. If they were meant for underwater, chances are that they at least have a mild filter to correct the lack of filter. But these cameras do not filter the particles that are found floating along in the water on a poor visible day so these cameras must not be used any below than 80 feet. Moreover, losing pictures because the housing failed is something that no photographer wants.
The more professional cameras are larger and come with huge lenses to let light in as well as filters to help bring clarity in any photograph. Digital cameras are the best way to take underwater photographs because the photographer can make sure he has the desired effects before leaving the scene.
Most underwater cameras also have flash but it is wise to have some pre-requisite about underwater photography using flash before taking any pictures. Sometimes the flash will help with the photograph while sometimes it can wash the subject away and ruin the picture. External flashes work better for underwater photography instead of the built-in ones. The external flashes can be a stick with a little light bulb on top.
Underwater photography requires a few more skills than regular photography due to the lighting conditions and color issues. But once understood underwater photography creates some wonderful opportunities to capture some fantastic pictures.
Capturing Moments Underwater
Moments can be created just about anywhere. Right here on the floor, up in the sky and even underwater. And to capture these underwater digital cameras are needed. There is a big difference between waterproof cameras and underwater cameras.
Water proof cameras cannot withstand water and water pressure. They are fine to work in a little rain or near pool sides. However, digital underwater cameras specially designed for deep water photography can be submerged into water and can be used to snap away some breathtaking underwater shots be it a school of fishes as it weaves in and out of pale reefs of coral or just a friend who is scuba diving for the first time.
As one furthers underwater, the light diffuses. Because of this light diffusion the red spectrum seems darker and the images produced are darker. To avoid this using white balance and coming up with neutral colors is recommended. Also pictures that are taken underwater come up lager than pictures taken on land with the same zoom effect. In a situation like that, the camera’s viewfinder can be used to check the desired angle and size of the image.
An underwater camera with a built in flash produces marine effect which is the phenomenon wherein the pictures come out as blurry with white particles floating above it. This can be rectified by using an external flash with the camera instead of the built-in flash. Many digital underwater cameras come with different lenses. Experimenting with these lenses sometimes lends to some great imagery. For instance, macro lens helps capture small things without getting too close and startling the subject.
Beautiful opportunities are created under water. Vivid colors and spectacular scenes can be captured. All that is required is a good underwater camera and some pre-requisite about photographing underwater.
Challenges of Underwater Photography

You will need to make sure that if your camera does not include a sufficient enough flash for deep sea photographing, you have another kind of light source such as a strobe light to carry with you, otherwise the photos may turn out cloudy and dark without much color depth to them.
The current also becomes stronger the deeper you go below sea level and this can cause extra pressure on camera equipment while also making it more difficult to hold the camera still to get the perfect photograph. Bubbles and fish swimming around can make that task even more difficult.
If you are planning on taking photos while deep sea diving, be sure to check and see how waterproof your camera is. Most cameras have a depth limit, meaning that once you go past a certain depth, such as 10 feet, the camera may not work any longer. This is something to consider before purchasing an underwater camera because you want a camera that will work at the depth you wish to photograph.
Practice makes perfect. You may have to play around with various settings and lighting to get the perfect shot. You should try various angles with the objects you are trying to photograph. It is best to get up close and personal with the object to get the best quality photo whether it be a fish or colorful coral. Looking through your diving mask, the object may look closer to you than what it actually is through the camera lens, and it will take practice to figure out exactly how to shoot the best photos.
Become familiar with your camera before going underwater so that you know exactly how to get the settings that you need. You don’t want to have to worry about fumbling around with unfamiliar buttons on the camera and miss that perfect shot. Once you learn to overcome all of the challenges and obstacles of underwater photography, you may just become the perfect underwater photographer!

Those types of underwater cameras are still available for those who choose to use them but technology has come a long way especially in the form of digital underwater cameras.
Digital underwater cameras may not necessarily do a better job of taking photos under the water however it can save a lot of time and money. For one thing, with a digital camera, you can’t run out of film. We all know what a pain it can be to run out of film while trying to take photos underwater, even if you loaded new film before you take that first dive, you are still able to only take a specific number of photos before the film runs out. Digital underwater cameras typically come with more advanced settings than regular film cameras. Many of these settings make taking photographs underwater easier such as special shutter speed and automatic focusing, along with advanced flash settings to give you more light down in the deep dark water. They typically have better zoom settings as well compared to 35mm film cameras whose zoom function typically came out blurry and washed out in photos taken underwater.

If you are new to the world of underwater photography, using a digital camera will help you gain experience much faster by being able to see your photos immediately and work on fixing any problems that may be shown in them.
You will also gain a higher quality photo with a digital camera that can be blown up into larger photos. This feature can be especially useful for photographers looking to showcase their underwater photographing skills to the world.
In the end, it is really your choice whether you prefer a digital or a 35mm underwater camera however, digital cameras will make your experience much easier in the long run.

Many underwater cameras come with an LCD screen that allows the photographer to see what exactly he is shooting and how the picture is going to turn out before he actually pushes the button.
After having managed to buy a good underwater digital camera it is necessary to have some basic know-how about filming underwater.
Lighting for the perfect shot, when shooting underwater requires knowledge about the natural light or strobe effects underwater. When at lesser depths than 20 feet and in clear waters it is often best to use the ambient sunlight while an off camera strobe can be most useful under less clear water reducing glare and bluing of the image.
Color contrast determines how true to life the photo comes to the underwater world. To offset problems like muted blue scenes or red-orange tinted disasters, it is better to use off camera strobes rather than flash. Every foot of distance underwater equals 2 feet of bluing effect.
It’s also important to know that wide angle lenses are best for underwater filming because water magnifies images. While zooming in to an image lowers its resolution, keeping close with a wide angle lens reduces that blue effect and captures the highest quality and resolution available.
Whether deep in the ocean or just in the deep end of a house pool, right underwater digital cameras help you take breathtaking underwater photos anytime you want to.
